Hypnosis for Childbirth

I use the Blissborn method which was created by Certified Hypnotherapists and Childbirth Specialists, Shelley Black and Laura Wood. After using hypnosis for childbirth with Laura’s 3rd birth with amazing success; they created a wonderful teaching method for a safe, comfortable birth. Blissborn  goes above and beyond any other hypnosis for childbirth method. The Mother-To-Be learns how to use hypnosis to relieve the pain of childbirth in five private, individualized sessions, taking home CDs each week so she and her birthing partner can practice the techniques each day.

By the end of the five sessions the Mother-To-Be is well equipped to use several hypnosis techniques to achieve a relatively pain-free, peaceful birth. Because the mother is deeply relaxed, babies are generally born more quickly. During hypnosis the mother’s body can do its work naturally without tension or resistance; often eliminating several hours of labor time. Babies born with the Blissborn method are under less stress and have higher apgar scores. Families are able to bond more readily, allowing for a more peaceful, joyful, and satisfying beginning to family life.

If there is a true need for medical intervention, the skills learned with the Blissborn method help the new mother respond well to chemical or surgical intervention.

Keep in mind, the private sessions include the birthing partner as well as the Mother-To-Be, so he or she can learn to be an effective support person during labor using hypnosis.  I suggest you schedule your sessions for the 28th to 32nd week of pregnancy so you have plenty of time to practice the techniques.

Blissborn includes 6 Hypnosis for Childbirth CDs and a wonderful, informative workbook containing everything you need to know for a safe, comfortable, rewarding birth experience.

“Hypnosis offers much, much greater pain control than Lamaze.  During active labor, many women using hypnosis rate their discomfort at about a level 2 on a 0 to 10 scale with 0 being no pain and 10 being the highest level of pain. Hypnosis also significantly reduces suffering, the emotional component of pain.

“Children born to hypnotized mothers scored higher on Apgar tests (a measure of health) and the mothers were less prone to post partum depression…those who have previously given birth without hypnosis tell doctors that it makes labor a more pleasant experience.”
