|Hypnosis for Weight Loss
Many of us have been frustrated in our
attempts to control our weight. The problem is that no matter what
diet or exercise program we use, relying on willpower alone is not generally
effective for long term results. We need the help of the subconscious
mind. We need our subconscious working for us, not against us.
We all have positive and negative beliefs
held within the subconscious mind about food and eating (and many other
things). Many of these beliefs were formed during childhood, some
go back to infancy. These beliefs affect our relationship with food
in present time. Unfortunately, many of these beliefs are negative
and cause unhealthy eating habits. For example, we may have been
given sweets as a child to comfort us when we were upset or unhappy or
even to occupy us when we were bored. Or we may have had food withheld
from us, sometimes for a good reason; for example, “you can’t have an ice
cream cone now because it will spoil your dinner!” These kinds of
events can cause us to use food for comfort, to relieve boredom, or even
as an act of rebellion. A three year old denied an ice cream cone may decide,
“when I’m grown up I’ll eat whenever and whatever I want!” This belief
crops up later when that child is grown and as a teenager or adult or even
middle aged adult may still go for the ice cream when feeling rebellious.
She or he may suddenly find themselves downing large milk shakes at college
or at thirty dumping their diet when they get tired of “being told what
they can or can’t eat! ” even if it is their own conscious mind (willpower)
telling them! These are just a few examples of how the subconscious
mind trips us up with our attempts to lose weight and keep it off.
I use hypnotherapy and EFT (see FAQ, "What
is EFT?") with my weight loss clients to help them find the source
of the problem and help them amend those negative beliefs and behaviors.
You may know some of the reasons you overeat. You may even have a
pretty good idea where the behaviors came from. Those of us who have
battled weight problems for years have thought about these issues a great
deal. The trick is to get the subconscious mind on board and in alignment
with your goal so you can change your destructive behavior. I believe
hypnotherapy and EFT are the best tools available at the present time to
defeat this problem. I also believe that the process can be very
enlightening, interesting, and fun!
I am currently accepting weight loss clients
for private, individualized sessions.
|When I began to work
with Marilyn, it had been about 7 years since I had experienced a serious
heart attack. I was frustrated because though I had changed my diet to
a heart healthy diet, over the past seven years I had still gained weight
and was at a weight that was unhealthy for my condition.
Over a period of about
4 months, Marilyn and I did several sessions, and on a daily basis I listened
to a CD she made for me. During the time I was working with Marilyn, I
slowly lost weight. The images and changed eating habits settled into my
consciousness and even during an extremely stressful time, due to my husband’s
illness, I continued the new habits and continued to use the techniques
My goal was to lose
40 lbs and I am within 12 lbs of my goal. Here is what I have noticed:
Going up the stairs in
our house is much easier. My hips and knees do not bother me nearly as
My cholesterol and blood
pressure are much lower.
I have more energy, even
during this extremely stressful time when I would expect to lose energy.
My normal pattern is to
eat when stressed but during the most stressful time of my life, this has
not been the case.
First I fit into some
jeans in my closet that had been too small. Now I have left those jeans
behind and have bought some new ones in a smaller size. Though I am holding
back on clothes shopping the little I have done is much more fun!
People are noticing my
weight loss and I have had many compliments.
I feel confident that
I will be able to continue with the new patterns and habits.
Certain foods and certain
eating patterns no longer tempt me.
I have moved toward
my goal slowly but this is positive because it will be a permanent change,
not just a short term diet. I still keep to my heart healthy diet,
have added more vegetables and fruits, and have changed how much I eat
and when I eat. There are a couple of less healthy foods that I no
longer eat, nor do I want them.
Recently I have received
an e-mail from a friend. This is what she said in her email:
“By the way,
I didn’t get a chance to tell you the other night, but you looked beautiful.
You look as though you have lost weight. You look extremely healthy, whatever
you are doing it shows.”
I am very grateful
for the work I did with Marilyn and the process in helping me to achieve
and maintain a healthy weight."
